KZN Youth Choir

South Africa’s oldest Youth Choir

The KwaZulu-Natal Youth Choir is a provincial choir in South Africa.  We are a diverse group of around 80 choristers, conducted by Gerard’d du Toit; a conductor, composer and an exceptionally accomplished musician. The choir’s repertoire mirrors our cultural diversity and includes a range of classical, sacred and traditional African music.  Being the oldest youth choir in South Africa, the choir was founded in 1967 by Mr Hein de Villiers and has been open to the youth of KZN for over 50 years. Our choristers come from all over KwaZulu-Natal, including Durban, Empangeni, Ballito, and Hermannsburg, to name only a few areas.

about us

As its name depicts, the choir consists of choristers from the KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa.  Though based in Durban, it attracts talent from across the province, reaching as far south as Port Edward and Kokstad, Richards Bay in the north and inland to Mooi River and Newcastle.

our objectives

  • To build the choral tradition in KZN.
  • To promote stylistically correct choral singing.
  • To engage the youth in a worthwhile activity in an organisation based on a Christian ethos and an atmosphere of encouragement.
  • To enrich the community through concerts and cultural development.
